Code of Ethics for Hunters Adopted by B.C. Wildlife Federation Members

SURREY, B.C. -- At a Meeting held in Prince George,  the B.C. Wildlife
Federation Board of Directors approved a “code of ethics” for hunters.
It is a summary of the much longer and more detailed code of ethics
that was originally adopted in 1993 by the BCWF Board of Directors
and ratified by the membership at the Courtenay convention in 1994.

The B.C. Wildlife Federation Code of Ethics for Hunters

  •        Ethical hunters respect the animals we hunt, and, when we hunt, we do so

  • responsibly.

  •        Ethical hunters are students of nature -- learning as much as possible about

  • the game pursued,  its habitat,  habits and life cycle.

  •        Ethical hunters support the concept of “fair chase.”

  •
  •        Ethical hunters are skilled in the use of the tools of hunting.  When we shoot,

  • we do so accurately and safely.

  •        Ethical hunters are true conservationists who believe in the sustainable use of

  • natural resources.  Our interest in wildlife and the environment includes non-game and
    endangered species.

“This code of ethics is offered to all hunters in the hope that they will strive to live up to the
intent and expectations offered in these 5 points,” stated Ivar Larson, President of the
Federation.  “Hunters and Anglers are the true conservationists in this Province, and we need to
show the general public that we respect each other, our fish, wildlife and our resource,”
    concluded Ivar.
